Kids don’t need perfect parents. They need PRESENT parents. 💡

I’ve learned this over and over again as a grandparent, a parent, and a children’s book author.
Your kids don’t care if the house is spotless.
They don’t care if dinner looks like a magazine cover.
They don’t care if you said something goofy or got the words wrong in their favorite bedtime story.
What they remember is that you were there.
Reading the story.
Laughing at their jokes.
Listening when they had a big question about life (even if it came out of nowhere at 9:47pm).
One night, my daughter asked me when she was little: Dad, are books magic?”I started to explain writing, printing, paper, ink… but he stopped me.“No, I mean magic like… how they get inside my head and make me feel stuff.”
That’s when it hit me: books are magic. But not because of the words. Because of the moments we share around them.
That’s why I keep writing. Not for bestseller lists or fancy awards (though hey, that’d be nice 😅)… but because I believe stories are a bridge between us and the kids who look up to us.
👉 If you’re a parent, grandparent, or teacher, here’s your reminder: don’t stress about being perfect. Be present. That’s what they’ll carry forever. ❤️
So tell me — what’s one little moment with a child that reminded you what really matters?
